Your Guide To Art Galleries in Metro Manila (Part 1)

It is no secret that the Philippines is home to incredibly talented visual artists. The country’s history has gathered stalwart names such as Juan Luna and Fernando Amorsolo whose works of glory are treasures the country will always be proud of. Our museums boast of classics whose quality of craftsmanship are as rich as their history.

But our country’s treasures in arts do not stop there. We are still home to numerous contemporary artists whose works, too, are golden and are often poignant. And Manila, being the soil from which several masterpieces are born, come nothing short of platforms where these artists can showcase their work. Past the façade of billboards and commercially designed structures in the Metro Manila urban fabric are soulful nooks of art—galleries that house contemporary and masterful works.

Where they are and what are they? Here are ten modern and independent art galleries in Metro Manila that have become the haven for amazing Filipino talent.

A SPACE Manila is a co-working space. It houses several floors to cater to several activities designed to provide space for productivity for different companies and working groups. It is, in a nutshell, an incubator—for ideas, for work, for production. They cater to meetings, product trials, and idea-generation to name a few. Most of all, they cater to art. A SPACE Manila has a gallery called “_Gallery”.

What’s to Love: The exhibits change occasionally, and they act as a great backdrop for the workspaces that A SPACE Provides. The gallery also serves as an event space where other performance art forms are occasionally held.  A SPACE should be worth the visit not only for the art but also for actual work and production.

BLANC Manila Peninsula

While the previous art galleries in Metro Manila can be rather informal, this one is a polar opposite of that. An art gallery in Manila Peninsula opened by an art gallery chain named Blanc provides their spectators a more formal exhibition of contemporary art.

What’s To Love: Their space is mostly catered to established artists to render to actual painting collectors. A lot of the artists they exhibit have been with them since their establishment. Blanc is the perfect space to find pictures from the pros, so to speak.
