There is nothing a good burger can’t fix. From the simplest cheeseburger to the most elaborate grilled behemoth, this ubiquitous dish has become a comfort food for many. Foodies have made it their personal mission to get a taste of the best burgers in Manila, and new contender Burger Geek is doing their best to make the A-grade!
Class is in session
Burger Geek is located in Molito, Alabang, which happens to be flourishing as a foodie complex in the South.
There are so many fun and quirky details to this burger joint that definitely lives up to their geeky name! The open sign says “Class In Session” while the bell rings when they open and close the restaurant. Doesn’t that take you back to your high school days?
The Burger Geek classroom
Burger Geek’s space is small, and the tables were quite close to one another. However, the high ceiling and glass windows make the room well-lit and comfortable enough for diners. The wooden chairs and tables even resemble those found in an actual classroom!
Upon entering, on your left, you’ll see a burger-ized periodic table painted on the wall. On your right, just by the Burgology Department’s entrance (aka the kitchen) is a big clock, so you can count the minutes to recess. Planning on meeting your professors there?
What’s on the menu
Burger Geek had a one-page menu, which made choosing an easy task. Their burgers are playfully named so reading will surely be a delight for every customer!
From the burger selection, we tried the B+ (PHP 255) with a side of french fries (PHP 65). The side dish is not included with the burger. From the rice dishes, we ordered the Umami Chicken (PHP 295).
The B+, or Bacon +, is composed of American cheese, smashed patty, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The smashed patty is a cooking method to ensure the outside of the patty is charred while keeping in the juices and taste of the meat.
This take on the classic BLT was love at first bite! The slightly buttery bun and juicy patty were so addicting that we did not want to let go off the burger until we could no longer see any sign of it. We’re still wondering what’s in that secret sauce, though!
The Umami Chicken, on the other hand, is composed of two Southern fried chicken, kimchi, kimchi rice, umami corn, and gravy. Umami worked magic on this dish! The chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The corn is also a winner. However, if you’re sensitive about oiliness and saltiness of your food, then this may not be your liking. As for us, we were more than happy with this dish. We just wish the kimchi rice had more of the kimchi kick, or maybe that was what the small kimchi side dish was for.
We came in the late afternoon, and only a few customers were dining in so the service was actually great. The staff was quick to serve their complimentary kropek. Although, the place is quite small, and we’ve seen it get crowded during lunch time and weekends. We could only imagine how this affects Burger Geek’s service.
Be warned: the waiting time was just too long for us. It was around 15 to 20 minutes till they served our food. Even so, this place is worth the wait.
The final grade
So, how good is the Burger Geek? The next day, we were already planning on dining there again because we were craving! We paid a second visit within the same week, and the food was just as great. Although, we have yet to try their best-selling Class President.
If you’re in the South and want a new burger place to add to your must-try list, Burger Geek has to be one of your stops. With quirky interiors and A+ food, it’s sure to make the grade in your book, too!
