6 Classic Filipino Love Teams That Are Unforgettable

Some of the most enduring figures in Philippine showbiz are the Filipino love teams. From the not-so-distant past to the present, we have encountered love teams that have made us kilig and feel all the different feelings through their iconic roles and beautiful chemistry onscreen and in real life. Get to know six of the most unforgettable Filipino love teams that we have rooted for through the years!

1Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III

Before Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III became two of the most acclaimed actors in Philippine showbiz, they first became a hit with the masses through their love team, which started in 1969 (gasp)! They were the love team to beat during the seventies, with hit movies, TV shows, and radio recordings. People will also remember the Filipino love team for Maria Leonora Teresa, a 3-foot ceramic-faced doll that fans have referred to as their “daughter.”

Although their respective careers have taken different directions, fans will always root for them to reunite as an onscreen pair, whether in TV or film. In fact, they starred in the TV5 TV movie, When I Fall In Love in 2014. In 2015, Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards paid tribute to the onscreen pair when they dressed up as Guy and Pip for Eat Bulaga’s Halloween special, which proves that their legacy transcends generations!

2 John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo

This is arguably one of the iconic Filipino love teams that touched millennials (and millennials at heart). John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo’s onscreen tandem continues to make people kilig, 14 years after their love team was born! They first worked together on the teleserye Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay in 2002. Since then, they have worked in a handful of memorable teleseryes and movies, such as the Pinoy adaptation of Betty La Fea and the films One More Chance and The Mistress.

Now, please raise your hand if you memorized every single line from One More Chance, or if you watched the movie at least three times in your life and went into hugot mode.

3Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan

As one of the most memorable Filipino love teams in the ’90s, (and early ’00s), Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan starred in some of the decade’s most memorable teleseryes and films, such as Mula Sa Puso, Saan Ka Man Naroroon, and Got To Believe. Aside from being a successful onscreen couple, they also dated in real life before Rico passed away in 2002.

Earlier this year, fans of the former reel and real-life couple got into kilig mode when Claudine Barretto shared on Instagram some of the love letters that Rico Yan gave her during their relationship.

4Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales

Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales first hit it big as a love team when they were first paired in the teleserye, Pangako Sa’yo. After the success of Pangako Sa’yo, they starred in several teleseryes and movies, such as Forevermore and Ngayong Nandito Ka. They also dated in real life,

Even though their careers and personal lives have taken different directions, they will always be remembered as one of the Filipino love teams that people loved during the start of the new millennium.

5Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta

As one of the most popular love teams in the ‘90s, Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta’s love team came into prominence through their 1991 film, Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit. In fact, Dawn and Richard once became a real-life couple! Despite breaking up, they continue to remain friends and onscreen partners, having worked in several movies and TV shows, such as the original Encantadia series!

In 2012, Richard and Dawn reunited in the teleserye, Walang Hanggan, which introduced their love team to a new generation of fans. Since then, they have appeared in movies such as She’s Dating the Gangster and The Love Affair.

6Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal

Back in the late ‘90s, Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin were one of the top teen love teams. Together, they have appeared in some of the most popular shows of the decade such as GIMIK, FLAMES the Movie, and Esperanza, as well as films such as Labs Kita, Okey Lang, and Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo.

After stints in GMA-7, Jolina and Marvin returned to ABS-CBN where they reunited in the afternoon series, Flordeliza. Nostalgia aside, we’re still hoping for another Marvin-Jolina reunion movie (or show)!

No matter which era you grew up in, these Filipino love teams will surely be remembered by many! Which other Pinoy love teams did you admire from the not-so-distant past?
