Movies To Watch In February: From Local Indie To Fifty Shades Darker

February is mostly known to be the month where everything is donned with hearts if not flowers. All possible date ideas will probably be executed and exhausted throughout this whole month. People are probably going to go crazy with big surprises but one can never go wrong with a classic; and what can get more classic than a date to the movie house? We’ve rounded up some movies to watch in February for those looking for a V-day fix.

This month poses with an array of great movies where you can go watch while on a date. While all of these movies aren’t romantic—some definitely not at all—we got to recognize the facts that some movies dates actually get more fun without the sappiness.

By dates, we don’t just mean romantic dates. Movie dates with friends or by yourself aren’t uncommon so you might want to consider going on one while all other couples are out flooding the streets with flowers during the Valentine season.

1Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Alice comes back for one more chapter of her fight against the undead, the final one. In this last stretch, she’s going back to The Hive in Raccoon City where all the pandemonium happened. This time, Umbrella Corporation is planning to overthrow the remaining human population.

Growing up with Resident Evil either through our game consoles or movies, it’s definitely exciting to catch the last battle of Alice against the undead enemies.

2Sakaling Hindi Makarating

Starring: Alessandra de Rossi, JC Santos, Pepe Herrera
Director: Ice Idanan
Release: February 1, 2017

The story of this much-awaited Filipino film revolves around Cielo who found herself in devastation after her fiancé calls the wedding off. Her journey began when she started receiving hand-painted postcards from five provinces in the Philippines—Zamboanga, Siquijor, Marinduque, Ilocos and Zambales. She then goes on a journey visiting the provinces on the postcards looking for something. The film’s foundation runs through the uncertainty if she’s ever going to find what she’s looking for.

The film is anticipated not only for its captivating plot but it is also said to be a film that paints the landscapes of the Philippines so beautifully with cinematography. The Philippine landscapes and the uncertainty of life in one movie? We’re definitely down for that.

3The Space Between Us

Starring: Asa Butterfiled, Britt Robertson, Gary Oldman
Director: Peter Chelsom
Release: February 1, 2017

If distance between countries can get difficult for some people to handle, The Space Between Us shows a much harder battle to fight and lands our list of movies to watch in February.

The Space Between Us is an interplanetary story about Gardner—a human who was born and raised in Mars who only knew about the Earth through online sources. He was eventually sent back to Earth and sneaks out of the gates of NASA in search of his father and his friend Tulsa who he met online. From here on out, he finds adventures of discovery, life, and love, and the struggle of trying to figure out from which Universe does his life really belongs.

4Why Him?

Starring: Bryan Cranston, James Franco, Zoey Deutch
Director: John Hamburg
Release: February 1, 2017

A father’s worst nightmare is to see his baby girl end up with a nasty guy regardless if he has zillions of dollars to his name. This movie is basically about the big nightmare and a hundred more. Watch this hilarious family movie of how Ned played by Bryan Cranston struggles around his daughter’s new boyfriend Laird played by James Franco. We’re excited to see how this fiasco will end.

5Fifty Shades Darker

Starring: Dakota Johnson, Jami Dornan, Marcia Gay Harden

It’s impossible to not include this much-awaited, sexy flick on movies to watch in February. After a few years of wait, the second installment of the Fifty Shades movie adaptation is back to lure people in. Mr. Grey and Anastasia are back in a hotter and darker story of love, lust and everything in between. If you found Fifty Shades of Grey enticing, we hear this one will be even more so. Fifty Shades Darker is back to put you on the edge of your seats and light your hearts on fire. This is a different kind of romance and we’re ready to watch it.

6The Lego Batman Movie

Starring: Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson

Big fans of Batman? Well, we’re going to be honest, we’re not sure if this will completely be your cup of tea. Although it is Batman, it goes on a different, more comic note. No, this is not a live-action one. It is an animated one and something we have not seen before. It is, in fact, in Lego form showered with layers and layers of comedy. This is Batman in a completely refreshing take!

Something different for the sci-fi lovers of movies to watch in February, Arrival is an alien movie unlike any other. While most alien movies scatter around alien images with human trying to fight them off with cannons and machine guns, this one shows very little of our universal neighbors. The role of Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in this movie are is to figure out why they are on Earth. This, they have to do before war breaks out between human and aliens, and humans against each other.

8I’m Drunk, I Love You

Two best friends of seven years go on a road trip before their final day in college. This road trip does not only bring them to the beautiful La Union; it also brings them to the discovery of what they really feel, or what they do not, for each other. A movie dotted with a crazy (un-)love story and several of OPM’s treasured songs for the soundtrack, this one is bound to hit a heart or thousands more. Remember that time several years back when we all got scared of our televisions because we were all introduced to Sadako? Well, she’s back. It’s almost like we haven’t learned from the last time. Tell you what, though, we’re willing to do it all over again.
