The must-see movies in October 2016 are coming with a roller coaster of genres, stories, and characters. Everything looks promising, so much so that we’ll surely be scheduling our days around movie opening dates! Movie dates, anyone?

1Deepwater Horizon

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson
Director: Peter Berg
Release: October 5

One of the first movies in October is a story about family, about a tragedy, about heroism and everything in between. Deepwater Horizon is about the life of Mike, a father, and husband, who works at a drilling rig in the middle of the ocean. In April 2010, tragedy strikes when the drilling rig explodes, creating the worst oil spill in U.S. History.

This happened based on real events in South Korea, and the movie is going to narrate it all. It’s definitely going to be equal parts heart-wrenching and thrilling.

2The Disappointments Room

Buying your dream home is not always as sweet as you imagine it to be. Another movie based on true events, The Disappointments Room tells a story of a mother and child in their new home. Sounds harmless? Hear this. There is a room in the house that isn’t in the plans. And that’s where the horrors in the movie start.

The story plays with your mind. The horrors are going to keep you awake at night. But for us, we’re pretty excited to scare the hell out of ourselves with this one.

This is an adaptation of a best-selling novel and led by one of the most renowned directors of our time, Ang Lee. While that’s enough reason to watch this, the movie itself gives us a million more reasons to do so.
