When I was presented with the golden opportunity of taking a day trip to Laiya in Batangas, I immediately jumped at the chance. This was perfect because beaches aren’t crowded this time of the year. The only challenge that I had to face was that it was part of Ride Along Motorcycle Tours Philippines and had to be done on a two-wheeler.
Riding a motorcycle is nothing short of daring for many people. Naturally, a newbie would start worrying. Pushing all those worries aside, I knew I had to do it for myself because I was in it for the experience. With that being said, Travel Concierge PH is not your typical tour operator. It’s for people who would like to have the option of traveling on a big bike and at the same time, explore different places in the Philippines. Why not go ahead and hop on a cruiser motorcycle?
Much to my surprise, I stepped into what I didn’t know would turn out to be an adventure of a lifetime with Ride Along Motorcycle Tours Philippines.
You have a riding partner.
Don’t worry about driving alone! For this trip, luckily I had the chance to catch a ride with Road Captain Pat Favoreal, the founder of Travel Concierge PH. I was immediately drawn to his laid-back nature and his intimate relationship with motorcycles. Can you imagine that he owns 13 bikes? Fortunately, it was a first for me to ride the magnificent Supremo, a Harley Davidson.
Other motorcycles that came out to join us were Sivakero (Kawasaki Vaquero), Sultan (Kawasaki Vulcan Classic), Rajah (Yamaha Dragstar) and my personal favorite, Patton (Royal Enfield Classic). Aside from him, his buddies from New & Old School Motorcycle Club (NOS MC) decided to come out on and board this journey with us.
You have protection.
Before you ride out on that beautifully paved road, you are suited up with protective gear. This includes a shield helmet, thick padded jacket with elbow guards and knee with shin guards, and of course, insurance! Ride Along Motorcycle Tours Philippines also gave us a brief on road etiquette, and what we should and shouldn’t do while riding.
Safety is a priority when it comes to Travel Concierge PH. For example, that infamous leather vest isn’t just a fashion statement worn by motorcycle blokes. As a passenger, it helps me hold my grip and helped keep my balance on a two-wheeler.
You will have to be open about your companions.
The painful misconception about motorcycle dudes is that they are often stereotyped. In reality, they are working professionals or businessmen who just happen to share a love for motorcycles. They just manage to look badass, and somehow, it’s stuck to the image of motorcycle riders since the beginning of time.
NOS MC has a great team behind it, and you can really feel how well-knit their brotherhood is by the way they look out for each other. As gentlemen, they were polite and friendly to me in every step of the journey. I asked a lot of questions because my knowledge on motorcycles was so limited and I really learned a lot from these guys. You can really count on them. Being the only girl in the group, I managed to look pretty awesome even if it was just for an entire day!
You will have a memorable adventure while being safe.
Getting on the back of a motorcycle for any trip outside the city can be somewhat daunting for others, so I have to admit it’s not exactly everyone’s cup of tea. While some people frown upon this kind of “adventure,” there are others who will take the chance of doing something new.
And, why not? After all, you get to live once and why not try everything at least once? For a day, I got to step out of my comfort zone and experience a ride along motorcycle tour ride with Ride Along Motorcycle Tours Philippines. Not a lot of companies offer this kind of journey. I mean, come on, how often can you say that you’ve ridden a Harley? Think of the exclusive bragging rights with your friends!
You have your team with you every step of the way.
Contrary to what many think, motorcycle riders are not reckless drivers. Believe it or not, these guys have a formation on the road. They stick to rules and stay intact no matter what happens. Just imagine a school of fish under the sea or when the birds fly to the south for winter.
At Ride Along Motorcycle Tours Philippines, these guys help each other by constantly communicating through hand gestures or signals. Pat is really strict when it comes to these things because he believes it serves as protection for his entire group. Communication is essential for a healthy relationship and it certainly applies to motorcycle etiquette. If that isn’t enough for you, you should be informed that there was a safety vehicle that had the tools (and kept our bags safe) in case if something did happen to one of the bikes.
You need to roll with the weather.
Well, let’s face the fact that we don’t have total control over the weather. Luckily, the gods were on our side when we ventured out to Laiya. The only time it got hot was when we stopped, but as soon as the natural aircon was whipping my helmet (I was heavily secured in it), there were no signs of visible sweat. As for rain, we were warned that we’d have to wear a rain poncho if it did start drizzling. If the weather got worse, the entire journey would have to be pushed back to another beautiful day to be safe.
You will better appreciate your road trip.
How many times have you been on a road trip using your car? Kinda boring, right? You can’t really remember anything because the entire journey has been so monotonous. Travelling on a cruiser really enhanced all my senses. I couldn’t stop looking around and was just in pure awe. I never know how different it could feel even if I’ve traveled the same road plenty of times since we often go to Batangas for the weekends. Even the road in Manila felt different! I felt like I had to soak up everything (even if it was the pollution) because I was so used to being contained inside a car.
Just like Pat had reiterated many times during the trip, “It’s not always about the destination, but it’s about the journey getting there.” Each trip is unpredictable and can never be repeated. With Ride Along Motorcycle Tours Philippines, you’ll deal with an open itinerary and believe me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. You won’t believe that a lot of unexpected things happened along the way and it turned out to be perfectly fine. Fun experiences like this are shared with the people that you ride with!
After this awesome experience, I’ll never look at these cruisers the same way again. I thought I only saw them in movies and a few on the road but never thought I’d become a passenger on one! I had the raw opportunity to meet new people who share a passion for riding out on the open road. Right now, I have so much respect for these riders and will probably approach them to ask permission to take selfies with their beautiful rides. It takes real discipline and fixated obsession to fuel such passion. The real highlight of this trip wasn’t just Laiya beach but the actual journey itself.
