Rub Ribs & BBQ: The Best And Biggest Ribs In Manila
Tomas Morato and the Scout Streets. It sounds like the name of a ’60s pop band, but it’s really just one of the go-to food strips in Quezon City. Amongst the many delicious restaurants, bars, and eateries along Tomas Morato Avenue and the intersecting streets, there is one little establishment that is home to one of the best ribs I’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring: Rub Ribs & BBQ.
Rub Ribs & BBQ: The rib joint of the North
Along Sct. Rallos, you can find a rather narrow, two-storey building that dozens of people flock to. That happens to be the home of Rub Ribs & BBQ. My family and I have been patrons of this rib joint for some time now, but we always had our food delivered. Being a large family, it was quite hard for us to eat in the small restaurant. But recently, I was able to dine at Rub restaurant with a few friends, and I can say that the modest setting definitely makes dining with buddies an intimate experience, despite having to wait for our chance to dine.
A haven for rib lovers
Rub Ribs & BBQ’s menu is rather broad, which is a good thing. They’ve got everything from grilled fish to Cajun chicken pasta. Whether you’re a fan of fried chicken, wings, steak, or fried Oreos, Rub definitely has you covered. But really, why bother going to a restaurant called Rub Ribs & BBQ if you don’t have any intention of digging in on their namesake? Really, you can never go wrong with Raki’s Ribs. Just the sight and smell of those ribs can make you forego the mandatory Instagram picture.
Whether you’re eating alone or with a bunch of buds, the serving for all three variations is more than enough. On top of that, the price is definitely beyond reasonable considering what you get out of it. Aside from the ribs, you have your choice of sides. There are nine sides to choose from, which I think is unbelievable. That’s a lot of sides!
The more sides, the better
What’s great is that all of them complement the ribs perfectly. My personal go-to side is the creamed corn as it really goes well with the barbecue sauce on the ribs, but more on the sauce later. You can also get rice, but the amount of sides you receive will certainly have you forget about it. If you’re having the Super Duo or the Family Brunch, mixing and matching the sides is a great way to keep it fresh, too!
Biggest ribs in town
The first thing you’ll notice once your food reaches your table is how big the actual ribs are. The first time I ate ribs from here, I was overwhelmed and excited at the prospect of filling up my tummy with, arguably, America’s greatest export. Sharing with friends or family is the best way to enjoy the ribs just because you won’t be able to finish a whole rack. But if you can, kudos to you!
The meat on the ribs themselves is as tender as can be. Purefoods may have the rights to the “Tender Juicy” tagline, but if they didn’t then it would be the perfect way to describe Raki’s Ribs. The barbecue sauce, however, takes it to another level. The sauce is flavorful with a tinge of spicy, which is just perfect. Your ribs experience won’t be complete without slathering it with the sauce.
Rub Ribs & BBQ is a small place, for sure. But there is a reason it’s worth waiting in line for at night. The ribs they have to offer can make everyone a regular. If you catch yourself in the Tomas Morato area with an empty stomach, fill it up with some grub from Rub!
